With a slight delay (promised for February), the Toyota Hilux V6 GR Sport arrives at Brazilian dealerships, including already appearing in the configurator on Toyota's official website.

The model is sold for exactly R$10.000,00 less than the GR diesel version, that is, R$204.990,00.

Hilux V6 consumption

The automaker adds the new engine to the Hilux (unheard of in the Hilux sold in Brazil but already used in our SW4 and other models abroad, such as the Tacoma) to compete with the Amarok V6 and its 3.0hp 225L engine. But why a gasoline-powered engine? Very clearly it is Toyota's only option currently, as above the 4.0L V6 only the V8 that equips the Land Cruiser, but it does not fit on the Hilux platform.

Still talking about the fuel that powers the model, the big problem that everyone imagines is consumption – which was not even disclosed by the automaker. On specialized pages, such as that of our partners at @bfmsoficial, comments appeared such as: “it will do 12 km/l at a stop”, “this will drink more than FNM going up the mountain loaded”, “38,3 kgfm, torque of a mower grass”, among many others. With the consumer in mind first, here's a pat on Toyota's back: we're here for whatever you need, whether it's to increase torque or help reduce fuel consumption.

The most powerful midsize pickup truck on the national market?

Now that everyone knows that the model is already in Tupiniquim lands and we have already caused some disagreements, one more controversy is never too much: the Hilux V6 GR Sport now holds the most powerful mid-size pickup brand on the national market (4.0 V6 gasoline engine with 234 hp at 5.200 rpm and 38,3 kgfm at 3.800 rpm), surpassing the Amarok V6 and its 225 hp.
Adding the factor “reprogramming” in your analysis (more power and less consumption), do you think it is capable of surpassing its market rivals or is it a model that will not do well in Brazil?

Reprogrammed

– Toyota Hilux 4.0L V6 GR Sport: approx. 265 hp with our remap STAGE 1
– Amarok 3.0L V6: approx. 270 hp with our STAGE 1 remap.
