We carry out tests in the Matrix Strike Brasil, in Campo Grande/MS, with the new Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI in manual version. This model appears as a possible replacement for the Volkswagen Up!, which left many fans orphaned, being one of the few 1.0 TSI manual models available in Brazil. Now, with our Stage 2, we will explore the potential of this vehicle.
Original Measurement and Stage 1
Before making any modifications, we measured the Polo 1.0 TSI in its original configuration. This engine underwent a recent update, resulting in a reduction in power compared to the previous generation: there are now 116 horsepower with ethanol and 109 with gasoline.
On our dyno, we recorded approximately 100 WHP (wheel horsepower), an expected value due to the loss of engine power to the wheels. In terms of torque, we find around 15 kgf·m, compared to the 16.8 kgf·m published by Volkswagen.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 reprogramming
After the initial tests, we carried out Stage 1 reprogramming and then Stage 2. Let's check out the detailed results of these modifications.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 results
The following graph illustrates the gains obtained with our reprogrammings:
- Red: Original configuration
- Green: Stage 1 Reprogramming
- Blue: Stage 2 Reprogramming
Between 2000 and 4000 RPM, we observed an excellent gain in power. In Stage 1, we saw an increase of 20 to 30 horsepower at the wheels. In Stage 2, the gains were even more significant, reaching around 40 to 45 horsepower in the engine, compared to the original 116 horsepower.
In torque, the gains were equally impressive. The original value of 15 kgf m increased to 19 kgf m in Stage 1 and 22 kgf m in Stage 2, representing a gain of 7 kgf m. This increase is noticeable mainly in the range of 3000 to 5000 RPM, where the car is used most on a daily basis.
Differences between Stage 1 and Stage 2
The main difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 is high-rpm performance. With the installation of downpipe Without a catalyst in Stage 2, we observed a significant gain in power at high rpm, reaching 10-15 WHP more than Stage 1.
Furthermore, we were able to slightly increase the rev cut-off limit, further improving the vehicle's performance.
Pops and Bangs
As a bonus, in addition to the Stage 2 reprogramming and downpipe, we installed Pops and Bangs, providing a more aggressive and sporty sound when accelerating.
