With the advancement of technology within the automobile industry, new tools and services emerge to improve engine performance. These changes can provide greater power, torque and acceleration.
Let's say that today what we have in our hands are computers on wheels – and not just vehicles. A electronic control unit (ECU) it practically controls the entire car, as if it were a brain, ranging from the air/fuel injection that is sent to the engine, to the vehicle's sound media panel.
Today on the market there are several ways to achieve this, which is why we have separated this content to clarify the difference between electronic injection reprogramming and chipping. Want to know the best option for your vehicle? Keep reading this post!
What is power chip
Chip is an external part that is installed in the car to “increase power”. Every car comes original from the factory with limitations in engine power, the power chip releases this power reserve, unlocks it.
Today on the market there are different brands, models and styles of chips, which can leave many people confused. This part is installed very easily and simply, some models even come with plug and play installation (just connect the cables and it's working), but what you may not know is what the chip does in your car exactly.
How works
The power chip changes your car's sensors. It “deceives” the information that is passed to the Electronic Injection Center (ECU). And the chip allows you to change a few parameters of the car. With remapping, many variables can be changed to obtain the best performance result.
Do not confuse power chip with remap as they are two different things. While the chip is a physical, external part that is installed in your vehicle, the remap is a service that is carried out in your car.
What is chipping?
It is the installation of a chip, an external module, in the car to deceive the information that is sent to the control unit. It obtains the values received from the car's sensors, changes this information received and sends this changed signal to the electronic control unit.
A power chip, as the name suggests, acts directly on the engine's power, so it changes the sensors so that they appear to be lower: the car then releases more power.
The pedal chip, which is responsible for improving the accelerator response time, works more or less like this: The driver presses 50% of the accelerator and it sends the signal to the car as if he had pressed 70% - the car will think that the driver stepped too much and will respond sooner.
What is Remap (electronic injection reprogramming)?
When reprogramming electronic injection, a change is made to the vehicle's control. Codes are rewritten and reprogrammed to optimize the car, increasing engine power and torque.
Map values are actually changed. Thus, the Electronic Center precisely coordinates all values, which are contained in its new code that has been reprogrammed.
To know everything about electronic injection reprogramming, we recommend reading this What is electronic injection reprogramming? where we cover everything about Remap.
Remap x chipping: What's the difference?
The main difference between remap x chipping is that while chipping is a system that tricks the ECU, in Remap the tables are reprogrammed. When chipping, your vehicle may experience faults after a period of use, due to the time that your Central received incorrect information and had to correct the sensors.

Remap is much safer, leaving no room for erroneous readings or excessive corrections. At Strike Brasil, for example, the engineers who make the program that we will put in your car are the same ones who make the programs for the Formula 1 SAFETY CARs in the Italian stage!
Is the result the same between remap x chipping?
No, the Remap result is much better.
The power chip, for example, will be able to change the reading of two or three sensors, turbo pressure, fuel injection pressure and fuel injection time. There are two or three specific changes that the chip makes and arrives at the result deceiving your car.
With electronic injection reprogramming, it is possible to tweak and change the codes at numerous points in the car and deliver a much more uniform result, without deceiving the car.
With Remap it is possible to do things that become very difficult with the chip, such as solving or preventing problems related to the particle filter (DPF), turning on an EGR valve operating cycle, turn off speed limiter. These things cannot be achieved with a power chip, for example.
Which is better: remap x chipping?
Unlike chipping, reprogramming does not require any installation of an external part to the vehicle as it is done in the software (brain computer) in the electronic injection itself, this also ends up offering a greater gain in power, torque and more efficiency in acceleration and autonomy.
We always prioritize the Remap service, but in situations where there is not yet a schedule for some vehicles, we choose to launch a Chip so that all our customers can have better performance in their cars. As is the case with Hilux 2020 chip.
Remap ends up being safer when it comes to system longevity because new software is always developed within the safety margin of the vehicle/machine. We will never use excessive power and torque that could prematurely damage the assembly.
Remap is not all the same
A Strike Brasil is the largest authority on Remap (electronic injection reprogramming) in Latin America, with more than 50 units spread across the country. Brazil, Bolívia, Paraguay, Equador, Guatemala e United States. Our maps are developed by a specialized team of European engineers, highly trained and who follow strict quality standards.
