With the turbo era in Formula 1 in the mid-80s, the turbocharged engine began to gain strength and fame. Until the end of the 90s, well-known brands such as Volkswagen, Audi and Volvo already sold some models with this type of engine.

Even though the Brazilian market is still lagging behind the European market, nowadays we already have several turbo car models available. 1.0 engines with turbo engines that deliver power similar to 1.6 naturally aspirated vehicles, for example, are gaining a good share of the Brazilian automobile market.

There are several types of engines on the market and when it comes to power, knowing how to differentiate a common engine, known as a “aspirated engine” that is very powerful, from a low-displacement turbo engine is already a good start when talking about automotive performance.

Some automotive performance lovers have doubts about which system is best for cars and which is the most effective. After all, with so much technology and options for parts, maintenance and services, which is better: turbocharged or aspirated car?

Furthermore, a frequent doubt we notice is, Why does a turbo engine have more gains in Remap than a naturally aspirated engine?

To begin to understand, you need to know the turbo and naturally aspirated engines and their differences.

Turbo Engine

turbo engine has more gains in remap - turbo compressor engine in operation

The engine with a turbo system uses the flow of exhaust gases. This flow rotates a shaft that at the other end has a propeller in order to compress the atmospheric air. Once this is done, this compressed air is taken to the engine intake through a set of pressurized hoses and pipes.

The turbocharger compresses the air and increases the pressure in the intake and, together with a significant increase in fuel injection, ends up producing horsepower much higher than the original. There will be a better explosion, and consequently, more power is generated by the engine.

Aspirated Engine

The naturally aspirated engine works differently. It operates without any auxiliary device to increase power, such as a turbo or compressor. In the case of a naturally aspirated car, the pressure depends exclusively on the local atmospheric pressure.

This engine model does not suffer from external interference. The air is absorbed by the movement coming from the piston, so the pressure that is created inside the combustion chamber is lower than atmospheric pressure.

Is there a remap for naturally aspirated engines? Yes, it exists because every engine has a margin of excess power that is configured by the car manufacturers. What happens is that in an aspirated engine the remap gain is smaller than compared to a turbo engine, as it is naturally an engine with fewer components and is weaker.

Currently, some manufacturers offer both a larger displacement version and a turbo engine version of the same model.

How remap works

Speed Limiter Removal

Remap is nothing more than a change in the software responsible for managing the vehicle's engine. It is an adjustment of the vehicle with the intention of allowing better performance for each need.

Every vehicle that has a part called an electronic injection control unit (ECU) can receive reprogramming, from vehicles, agricultural implements, marine engine to trucks. It is through this center that you have access to information that, when changed, will lead to optimization of the vehicle, increasing engine power and torque.

If you still don't know what remap is, electronic injection reprogramming, we have a text where we explain everything about remap. In this article we point out what it is, the advantages of reprogramming, what types of transport can be remapped and much more.

Remap is not all the same

A Strike Brasil is the largest authority on Remap (electronic injection reprogramming) in Latin America, with more than 40 units spread across Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Our maps are developed by a specialized team of European engineers, highly trained and who follow strict quality standards. For those who want to know more, we present 7 reasons to reprogram your car with the intention of allowing better performance for your needs.
