For those looking for greater power, torque and acceleration for their vehicle, it is quite common to hear an indication to install a power chip. But after all, what is this power chip? Is it the same thing as a electronic injection reprogramming? Is it a service or is it a product? Continue reading our article and find out.
Before knowing what a power chip is and how it works, let's explain how an ECU, electronic injection control unit, works. So, we can summarize the operating principle in three steps:
- Sensor Reading
- Data Processing by ECU
- Actuator control
The readings from these sensors allow the ECU to identify wheel speed, engine RPM, intake air temperature, engine load, among others.
With this information “in hand”, the ECU crosses and interprets the data, defining how the vehicle should behave in that work situation, then sending commands to the various electronic actuators such as injection nozzles, wastegate, throttle body, among others.
What is power chip
power chip is an external module, installed in the car to change the information that is sent to the control unit (ECU). It obtains the values received from the car's sensors, changes this information received and sends this changed signal to the electronic control unit.
To clarify, a power chip, as the name suggests, acts directly on the engine's power. Then he changes the sensors to make them appear lower: the car releases more power.
How works
The Power CHIP is a product, One external part which interferes with the three summarized steps in the operation of an electronic injection that we mentioned at the beginning of the text.
The command signals sent by the ECU to the actuators (after identifying and processing sensor readings) are mathematically multiplied to induce the actuators to work more aggressively.
What is the difference between a reprogramming and a power chip?
Electronic injection reprogramming (remap) is a service which teaches the ECU to work in a regime imposed by engineers according to the customer's objective. In other words, it is not according to a factory preset.
The power chip, on the other hand, cannot build a smooth linear gain. Therefore, we can say that ECU reprogramming (remap) teaches a new way of working. While the chip tricks the actuators, making them work in disagreement with the ECU commands.
